The elementary children of Hampstead and Bayswater have been busy with preparations for the 5th Annual Montessori Model United Nations (MMUN) European Conference to be held in Rome from 1st to 4th May 2018. MMUN is the largest Model UN programme in the world for children 9-16 years of age.
This year, the six school teams chose to represent Barbados, Cyprus, Ethiopia, Iraq, Japan and Zimbabwe. They will sit on the upper elementary committees of Disarmament and International Security (DISEC), Social, Humanitarian and Culture (SOCHUM) and the United Nations Security Council (UNSC). As Ambassadors of their selected countries, the children researched and studied the politics, culture, history and geography of their country to discover the reasons behind each country’s challenges and the position that they will take relating to some of the global issues that are currently being debated on the UN agenda.
We would like to thank all the children, parents and staff of the elementary classes for their MMUN fundraising efforts earlier in the year. The proceeds from the pop-up coffee mornings and some of the proceeds from the summer fair helped more children to travel as part of the team.
We wish the delegation all the very best and look forward to hearing about their experiences once they are back.
