Maria Montessori School Receives Glowing Ofsted

We are very proud to announce that our school, located on five London sites: Abbey Road, Bayswater, Hampstead, Hornsey Rise and Notting Hill (now an English-Mandarin bilingual school). was rated ‘good’ overall and outstanding in behaviour, attitude, and personal development.

The recent Ofsted inspection, which took place in June 2022, found that:

“Pupils’ behaviour is excellent. Disputes, including incidents of bullying, rarely happen and when problems crop up, staff sort things out well. This is because the school’s ethos is all about helping pupils to understand what respect and tolerance look like in real life.”

“The way in which staff develop pupils’ independence, resilience and personal and social development is a strength. Pupils are confident, motivated and eager to learn.”

“Pupils develop a strong understanding of how to manage their feelings.”

“Pupils get on very well with each other. Without being asked, they offer encouragement to their classmates. The mixed-aged classes enable older pupils to help the younger ones. They do this with pride.”

Our Head of School, Michel Capobianco, said:

“The Montessori approach is committed to educating the whole child. I am so pleased that both the incredible dedication the teachers place on the social and emotional wellbeing of the children and the attention the teachers give to providing a robust academic experience were captured in the report by Ofsted.”

The school currently serves children aged 2 ½ – 12 years but owing to its overall success and growth, and an increased demand for Montessori education, the Maria Montessori school plans to open a fifth Elementary class (6-12 years) and an Adolescent Programme (12-16 years) in Central London in September 2023. Parents are encouraged to attend an Open Day where they will learn about the school’s authentic Montessori approach, see demonstrations of Montessori materials, meet the teachers and walk around the classrooms and gardens https://www.mariamontessori.org/schools/register-for-a-parent-information-session/. Parents can also email schools@mariamontessori.org or call +44 (0)20 7435 3646 to visit the school and observe the classroom during school hours.

“Pupils settle in quickly, learn a lot and enjoy their time in school. Staff provide a nurturing and stimulating environment in which the school’s Montessori philosophy is firmly embedded.”

“Pupils achieve well. When it is time to move on, pupils leave with the knowledge and skills they need for their future learning. They are very well prepared.”

“Staff have strong subject knowledge, are skilled in observing pupils’ learning, and know how to encourage, support and intervene.”

“Pupils are highly motivated to learn. Right from the start, routines are well established and understood. This means that learning is hardly ever disrupted by poor behaviour.”
