Foundation Degree in Montessori Pedagogy (AMI 3-6)

The Maria Montessori Institute is offering a Foundation Degree in Montessori Pedagogy (AMI 3- 6) in collaboration with the University of East London – Cass School of Education and Communities.

The Foundation Degree is awarded alongside the AMI Diploma (3-6), and also incorporates the Early Years Educator [EYE] qualification, awarded by Innovate Awarding, which entitles the holder to be included in the ratios of staff to children for delivering the Early Years Foundation Stage [EYFS] in an Early Years setting in the UK.

Objectives
The purpose of the Foundation Degree in Montessori Pedagogy (AMI 3-6) course is to study, in depth, Montessori pedagogy and practices for the child between 3 and 6 years of age.

Course Format
The course runs full time for two years or part time for three years, starting 14th September 2018.

Entry Requirements 
112 UCAS Points

  • from A Level Must include two passes at A2 Level
  • from BTEC – Extended Diploma (QCF) or Diploma (QCF)
  • from CACHE – Level 3 Extended Diploma for Children and Young People’s Workforce (QCF) / Level 3 Diploma in Child Care and Education
  • from International Baccalaureate – Diploma with 25 points including a minimum of 15 points at Higher Level

We also consider a range of UK and worldwide qualifications at the appropriate level and also take relevant work experience into account when considering an application.

Applicants living in the UK or EU, whose first language is not English must demonstrate that their English level is at the standard for university study. We accept a number of different English language qualifications / tests for entry onto our course, with IELTS being the most common. We require an Overall IELTS score of 5.5 with a minimum of 5.5 in Reading, Writing, Listening and Speaking.  We also accept:

Grade C in GCSE English and Maths or equivalent.

An offer of a place on the course is subject to successful interview.

The applicant must be at least 18 years at the start of the course.

Programme
The Foundation degree in Montessori Pedagogy AMI (3-6) course covers:

  • Montessori Child Psychology and Child Development.
  • Montessori Educational Theory and Practice to include the role of the Montessori teacher and the preparation of the Montessori environment.
  • Observation and Teaching practice in schools run by AMI trained Montessori teachers.

Award of Qualification
Award of both the Foundation Degree and the AMI Diploma will be made to those who have

  • gained 240 credits
  • satisfied the 90% attendance requirement
  • are successful in the theory and oral and practical examinations in the Synthesis of Theory and Practice module
  • have fulfilled the Observation and Teaching Practice requirements of the Reflective Practitioner module

Award of the Level 3 Early Years Educator qualification will be made to those who have

  • successfully completed all the assignments for this qualification
  • have fulfilled the Observation and Teaching Practice requirements of the Reflective Practitioner module
