Professor Angeline Lillard, Professor Michael Thomas and nurse Anne Kelly are part of a programme of globally recognised speakers at the conference on the 28th September at London’s QEII Centre. The event is hosted by Montessori Centre International, Maria Montessori Institute, Bournemouth Montessori Centre and The Montessori Partnership.
Renowned Montessori expert and psychology professor Dr Lillard will deliver a keynote speech on her latest research on the outcomes of Montessori education at this September’s high-profile conference. Dr. Lillard is a Professor of Psychology at the University of Virginia and Director of the Early Development Laboratory. She has been studying Montessori’s methods for more than two decades and is the author of the bestselling book Montessori: The Science behind the Genius.
Educational Neuroscientist Professor Thomas will consider recent evidence on sensitive periods in brain development, the social brain, the predictive brain and the adolescent brain and how these topics link to the pedagogical concepts underpinning the Montessori approach. Professor Thomas is Director of the University of London Centre for Educational Neuroscience and the Professor of Cognitive Neuroscience at Birkbeck, University of London, UK.
Montessori Dementia Consultant Anne Kelly’s presentation will reveal how Montessori principles are as applicable to the old as the young. She will explain how the Montessori “prepared environment” is relevant for older people and explore how Montessori principles can support independence and meaningful engagement for those living with cognitive impairments. Registered nurse Anne Kelly is a world leader in Montessori methods for dementia care and is chair of the Association of Montessori Internationale Scientific Pedagogical Committee on Montessori for Dementia and Ageing.
