About the Ellie Kempley Scholarship

Ellie Kempley was a student on the AMI 3-6 Diploma course at the Maria Montessori Institute when she very sadly and tragically died due to Sudden Adult Death Syndrome.

Ellie was dedicated to changing children’s lives through
education and was deeply passionate about the Montessori
method. She always dreamed of opening her own nursery.

Though Ellie never got to finish her course at the Maria Montessori Institute, her family knew her passion had to live on.

That’s why they set up the Ellie Kempley Foundation and Ellie Kempley Scholarship to commemorate Ellie, and have generously funded a place on the AMI 3-6 Diploma course each year since 2024.

What does the Ellie Kempley Scholarship Cover?

Full course fees for one place per year on the AMI 3-6 Diploma or AMI 0-3 Diploma courses.

Criteria For Applying

As per the Kempley family’s wishes, applicants for the Ellie Kempley Scholarship must:

Miles for Montessori

Miles for Montessori 2026 is a fundraising initiative, set up by Ben Kempley (Ellie's brother), to help fund the Ellie Kempley Scholarship. Ellie’s friends and family will be running, hiking, and cycling from Leeds to London.

The Maria Montessori Institute is deeply grateful to Ben Kempley and the rest of the Kempley family for their immense generosity and active support in funding places to train future Montessori teachers who may otherwise not be able to study the AMI Diploma courses.
