Overview

The course is open to anyone who has already completed an AMI Orientation 0-3 (or AMI Assistants Course). It offers those working or planning to work as a Montessori Assistant the opportunity to learn about practical approaches from online sessions and gain recognition for their practical experience as an assistant.

The course has two components:

  • 8 hours of live online training sessions, followed by:
  • 12 hours of practical engagement in an AMI Montessori 0-3 prepared environment – it is your responsibility to locate and do the practical part of the course under the supervision of an AMI Diploma holder at the relevant age level – online sessions must be completed before environment practice.

What can I do with this qualification?

  • If you are planning to work as an Assistant in a Montessori Nido or Infant Community or other Montessori 0-3 environment, this course will greatly increase your chances of finding a role and being successful and happy in it.
  • If you are already working in a Montessori environment this course will enhance your ability to support the lead adult and interact with the children, increasing your enjoyment of your role and outcomes for the children.

Course Content

  • Overview of the Montessori 0-3 prepared environment
  • Maintaining the indoor and outdoor environment for ages 0-3
  • The role of the lead adult and the assistant in a Montessori 0-3 prepared environment
  • The importance of regular meetings with the lead adult and confidentiality in the assistant’s role
  • Exploration of activities appropriate to the assistant’s role for ages 0-3
  • Observation to support the work of the children and adults during ages 0-3
  • Spoken language activities; the importance of correct, precise, rich and scientifically exact vocabulary; listening to children; and eliciting language
  • Adult movement in the prepared environment as a model
  • Essential Grace and Courtesy in the prepared environment
  • Activities for art and music

What will I need to do to gain the qualification?

  • A minimum of 90% attendance of the online sessions
  • 12 hours practical experience assessed by an AMI Diploma Holder
  • Completion of a material making project

Do you accept students from outside the UK? Do I need a Visa?

Our students come from all over the world and our fees are the same for everyone. This course is studied online and therefore would not require a Visa for any student. Please note that the live course sessions are listed in UK time and the student must organise the environment placement.

Where is the training located?

Live online sessions with additional placement at a AMI Montessori environment- the environment could be based anywhere in the world.

What are the hours of the course?

This is a part time online course with live online sessions with the trainer plus directed study in your own time and an environment placement.

Do you offer help in finding a job after completion of the Adjunct course?

What if English isn't my first language?

You need a good level of English to succeed on our courses. All applicants need to demonstrate their ability to understand and express themselves in both written and spoken English. If the highest qualification you hold was not studied in English, you may need to provide an English language qualification/test.

What is the application process?

Applicants are asked to complete our online application form.

You will then be asked to email a number of supporting documents including a personal statement, a fitness to teach health form, references and education certificates.

Successful applicants will be offered a course place.

Do I need to organise a practice placement and/or the AMI Diploma holder to complete the assessment?

The student will organize their own placement and send details of the environment to the Maria Montessori Institute, including the lead adult’s AMI certification.

Will I gain a certificate for this course?

You will be assessed by an AMI trained teacher and gain an AMI certificate.
