Overview

This AMI course is especially for school leaders and administrators at Montessori schools. It will support your role as an administrator or leader and will deepen your understanding of school leadership in a Montessori context.

The course covers matters essential for new administrators and experienced headteachers or principals alike as well as other leaders in school settings such as business managers, bursars, deputies and aspiring school or centre leaders.

The course involves lectures, discussions, breakout groups, role-playing and observations of Montessori environments.

What Will I Learn About?

The AMI Montessori Leadership Certificate Course will provide you with the skills, knowledge and understanding of:

• Core pedagogical principles

The course content is delivered using a mixture of interactive presentations, small and large group work, observations in schools and discussions and is contextualised for the country and interests and needs of the group.

Trainer: Christine Harrison

Christine has been involved in Montessori education since 1984 and was Head of School at Canberra Montessori School, one of the largest Montessori schools in Australia, for over 20 years. As well as educational leadership, Christine has a background in mediation, mentoring, conflict management and adult education with an emphasis on empowering individuals and building good communication skills. She was the founding President of Montessori Australia and worked as Education Services Director. During this time, she was Chair of the ACT Association of Independent Schools, Board Member of Independent Schools Australia, and a panelist for the 2nd Tier Review Panel of the Australian Children’s Education and Care Quality Authority (ACECQA). For the past 15 years she has worked as a consultant and mentor for Montessori schools and childcare centres and served on several Montessori school boards. Christine served for 8 years on the Board of the Association Montessori Internationale (AMI) and is now AMI’s Ambassador for Southeast Asia. Christine co-founded and developed the AMI Montessori School Leadership Certificate Course and is Chair of the AMI Subcommittee overseeing the course.

Trainer: Julien Lamorte

Julien Jayed Lamorte has been an AMI International Trainer for the Montessori School Administrators/Directors course since 2020. Involved in the Montessori community in France since 2004, then in Switzerland from 2019, he has been a trainer or consultant to Montessori schools and specialized educational institutions worldwide since 2023. Co-founder and co-director of Collège Maria Montessori des Aiglons, which welcomed young people aged 11 to 15 as boarders between 2014 and 2024, he has accompanied teenagers every year in their preparation for professional life.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I gain a certificate for this course?

Participants will receive a Association Montessori Internationale School Administrators certificate upon completion of the course.

Where is the training located?

The training is in-person at the Maria Montessori Institute training centre in Central London.

What if English isn't my first language?

You need a good level of English to succeed on our courses. You will need to be able to understand and express yourself in both written and spoken English.
