The Ellie Kempley Scholarship Fund

The Ellie Kempley Scholarship Fund was set up by the family of Ellie, an AMI Diploma 3-6 student who sadly passed away suddenly in 2022 while training with us.

Ellie’s family are fundraising for a scholarship place for a student or students to study the AMI Diploma 3-6 every year. The Maria Montessori Institute will match fund the first £2000 raised for each place using the charity’s reserves. In October 2023 her family and friends will be taking part in the Yorkshire Marathon to raise funds.

Ellie’s brother Ben Kempley said:

“My younger sister Ellie died, without warning or reason, from SADS (Sudden Arrhythmic Death Syndrome) on September 16th 2022. Grief is all the love you want to give, but now can’t – and my family and I loved Ellie beyond imagination. We have since been searching for ways to express that love. It is therefore with great excitement that we decided to establish a scholarship in her memory.

“Ellie  was incredibly passionate about children and hugely enjoyed, and thrived in, her first year of study at the Maria Montessori Institute and was destined to be a wonderful teacher. From 2023 onwards, the Ellie Kempley Scholarship intends to cover the full tuition of a student, or students, through the course that Ellie was unable to finish. It was always her dream to educate, inspire, and care for young people. By sponsoring teachers in her honour, we can do just that.

“For our first ever fundraising event, we decided to take on the fantastic Yorkshire Marathon. We have recruited a team of 33 friends and family to run on Ellie’s behalf. They have been training for over 10 weeks, in countries ranging from Australia to Sweden to Japan. Some are seasoned runners; some run from time-to-time; and some are complete beginners. All are extremely brave! We would be incredibly grateful for any donations – little or large – to our cause.”
