Overview

This free of charge programme will provide parents and professionals with practical parenting strategies and advice on the home environment. The programme is delivered via six online sessions and focuses on one of three stages:

  • Preparation for Parenthood (conception, pregnancy and the early weeks)
  • Children aged from birth to 3 years
  • Children aged from 3-6 years

It is open to any parent or professional based in the UK, though we are particularly interested to support those who cannot access our other courses for financial reasons.

Next Course: Preparation for Parenthood
The focus for the Preparation for Parenthood workshop is preparing the adult for the pending arrival of and care for the newborn. Knowledge of child development will be covered as it will illuminate important considerations when we perform the daily activities, such as playing, feeding, changing, bathing and sleeping. The workshop will look to the first six to eight weeks after birth as a time for special sensitivity and care for the new family and discuss the ways in which we can prepare for this unique period. Pregnancy and beyond is full of exciting milestones and understanding these through the lens of child development offers a framework within which we can start to prepare ourselves and the kind of home we would like to make for family life. The workshop will be a combination of live lectures, discussion groups and home study which will offer an in depth but very practical guide to the beginnings of parenthood.

“To give our children a fine start in life we must see that their surroundings satisfy their need for activity and development, remembering at the same time that our own part is not that of instructor and interferer but of helper."

As Montessori parents and carers we support our children though guidance and collaboration, instead of through ‘teaching’. In this way, we nurture a feeling within, that signals confidence in their own abilities, preserves their sense of dignity and deeply respects their ability to direct their own development.
