AMI Refresher Course 2019 – The Art and Science of Observation
Observation of the child is the foundation on which the entire Montessori approach rests. It is only through observation that we can elucidate the child’s inner drives and ‘provide motives for activity so well adapted to the child’s interest that they provoke his deep attention’.
Observation is both an art and a science that every Montessori teacher must acquire in order to help children to fulfil the promise gifted to them by nature.
In this year’s AMI Refresher we will explore the Montessori approach to observation including an introduction to the use of the Montessori work curves. The Refresher will be delivered as a hands-on workshop helping participants to acquire the practical skills needed for good Montessori practice. The workshop is most suitable for those currently working with children.
This workshop, presented by AMI Trainer, Louise Livingston, is suitable for all Montessori trained teachers at the 3-6 level. There will also be parallel sessions for those who don’t have a Montessori diploma and are interested in developing observation skills in their role as support to the teacher.
Please note to be awarded the AMI Refresher Certificate you must hold an AMI Diploma, have valid AMI Membership and attend both days. Non-AMI Diploma holders and assistants will receive a Maria Montessori Institute Professional Development certificate of attendance.
